What is a BOLO Traffic Stop?

Clearwater Traffic Attorney Answers

Hi this is attorney, Kevin Hayslett, and the question is regarding the role of a BOLO in a DUI case. A BOLO stands for “be on the look out for” and is the basis sometimes for traffic stops in a DUI case. In many cases, police agencies will get calls from an anonymous tipster that a car is driving in an erratic manner. In that case a BOLO or a be on the look out for advisory will go out over the police airwaves. As the result of that, the law enforcement officer will pull someone over based upon the description of the motor vehicle and other information.

If your case was predicated on a BOLO and that is the basis for your traffic stop, it is important for you to discuss with your lawyer possible defenses. Most states or jurisdictions have certain laws that require certain things to be in place in order to justify a valid traffic stop. If you have been arrested for a BOLO or a be on the look out for advisory discuss that with your lawyer because it may in a defense for no basis for a valid traffic stop.
