Although from diverse cultural and religious or non religious backgrounds, for each of us the holidays have significance. For children, the holidays hold happiness, joyful anticipation, and the promise of gifts. For adults, a time of joy, sharing, sadness, stress, renewal and memories…good and bad. We all reflect upon a range of experiences and emotions in our lives as we grow older. The holidays can bring us comfort and joy, but may also serve to remind us of the loss of our loved ones over the years. As we have seen recently, bad things happen. We should be ever mindful of the precious nature of each and every life, and the need to live our lives to the fullest every day. We should respect the dignity of every other person, and offer support to those we know and love, while exhibiting kindness and charity to all. Remember, we live in the best country in the world, and despite our problems, the best of times.
