Those convicted of drink drive are offered the opportunity to attend a course which is 16 hours taught (so 18.25 including breaks). If they take up the opportunity, their disqualification is reduced by up to
25%. Please note first time drink drivers are all always banned for a minimum of 12 months. So with the course their ban is reduced to 9 months. On a 3 year ban, they get their licence back at 27 months.
The course is closely prescribed by the Department for Transport. The course must run over a minimum of 3 sessions and should not usually be done on consecutive days (our courses tend to run on say 3
consecutive Mondays or Tuesdays, Saturdays etc).
The course is meant to be educational, not counselling and includes alcohol education This can only be accepted for first offenders
