What is UM Auto Insurance?
UM stands for uninsured or under insured motor vehicle insurance. It means that if you are a driver of a car and you are hit by another driver and their policy is under insured or they have no insurance, by having UM, you are covered for your loss. If you are struck from behind in an automobile accident and they have no insurance, your uninsured motor vehicle insurance will cover you up to the limits of your policy. Usually, UM insurance is sold in the following increments:
This means that you are covered by 100,000 dollars worth of coverage per accident per person and 300,000 per total accident. So, if you had three members of your family in the car and they are all within your policy, you have 300,000 dollars with 100,000 dollars per person to be covered, if the person who hits you has no insurance or low insurance.
It’s very important to get as much uninsured motorist as you can afford because it protects you, and your loved ones.
