What To Do When In A Car Accident?

Steps To Follow After A Car Accident....

The question is, "What To Do After A Car Accident?". Well, the first thing to do after you are involved in an auto accident is to write everything down. You want to record who was in your car, the names and witnesses in the other car, the police officer who was called to the scene, the location, and everything about that accident as clearly as you can as soon as you can. You want to take all the information about their license plate, contact numbers, and everything that you can record at the time of the accident. Put it in a safe place and keep it in a notebook about that information.

The second thing you want to do is make sure you collect as much evidence as you can. Generally these days, we all have cameras in our cell phones so make sure at least initially to take photographs on the scene. Photograph you car, photograph the other car, and photograph it in perspective of where the accident happened. Also, take photographs from different angles. If you have a camera with you take photographs of the accident scene where the cars are located; take it from several angles. If you are injured take some photos of your injuries. You want to photograph and preserve as much evidence as you can. You do this for two purposes:

  1. Number one, so you can show the insurance adjusters just how the accident looked.
  2. If the case ever goes to trial, you will have good evidence to tell a jury and show them exactly where the cars were located and what damages occurred on the day of the accident.

The next thing you need to do is notify your insurance company. You need to put them on notice that you were involved in an accident and explain to them you injuries. If you have PIP, which is Personal Injury Protection, they need to be notified so they can pay and reimburse you for some of the injuries you had in the accident. All these things, notifying your insurance adjuster, keeping a notebook of what happened in the accident, and also preserving evidence; those three things are the first things you do once you have been involved in an accident and you are safe.
